Is Maybelline New York Color Sensational “Made for All” Lip Color Really for All of Us?
February 9, 2019
I was asked to participate in a campaign to sample the new Maybelline New York Color Sensational Made for All Lip Color in collaboration with Walgreens. I received a complimentary lipstick in the color Ruby for Me #385. Due to my celiac disease diagnosis, I immediately went to the Maybelline website where I did a search for “gluten.” Zero results were found.
My next step was to call Maybelline directly via their customer service line at 1-800-944-0730. I spoke with a kind representative who indicated that she “could not confirm if the lipstick was completely gluten free as highly refined traces of gluten could be present in the manufacturing process.” The Maybelline representative recommended that I speak with my doctor before using the lipstick. She also suggested that I review the list of lipstick ingredients on the website although she noted “that this might be difficult since all of the ingredients are listed by their scientific names.” The Maybelline representative also offered to email me a recap of our conversation.
The Maybelline lipstick is touted as being “Made For All.” Unfortunately, it appears to be made for most – but not those of us with food allergies and diseases. Without certainty that the lipstick is gluten free, I will be unable to sample it as I cannot take the risk of ingesting gluten through a lip product.
